6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. charles the second by jacob abbott By book eater this is a very simply written account of charles the second. easy to understand and interesting. this book does not go into great detail but kind of outlines the main points of his life.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It was OK By specwardude Hard to determine what time frame it was written. Slanted towards the Stuart family (Charles, his wife, etc) and against the leaders of the commonwealth (Cromwell, etc). Romanticized like many books of this type by going into boring and sometimes unrealistic seemingly made up "details" of certain events. You have to decide what to "throw out". I did learn more about this family history and came to the conclusion that Charles II was lucky to get the throne back as did like so many of other English royalty. He spent too much money, had numerous mistresses,generally abused power and was lucky he did not meet the same fate as his father.Good stories, interesting points of view and after all my whining, I would still recommend it for the historical value..
