(Other books are: "Stick It" and "Tape it and Make it.") This book's projects are fun, funky, and colorful. The photos are bright and easy to follow, and the crafts are projects you would actually want to make (and wear, or use in your home -- if you like the duct tape aesthetic!).The author's funky style comes through in her creative ideas, that range from basic (flower-making, and duct tape crafting fundamentals), to complex (ruffled topiaries). Tweens and teens will love these projects, and adult crafters will appreciate the design aesthetic put into the projects.

Fabulous Duct Tape Style By Amy Anderson I recently developed a love of duck tape when patterns like the mustache, Hello Kitty and bacon printed ones came out. There's just one problem - I have no idea what to do with the several rolls that I bought! There is where Marisa's book comes in handy. She's got great ideas (and a lot of them) and the tutorials are easy to follow. If you can use regular tape, you'll be able to make the projects in this book. It's a great gift idea for someone who has just started in crafting, too. Highly recommended!

Dogs are the most faithful friends of human being that can provide you love and protection. I have read many amazing stories in some books and have seen news about how a pet dog saves the life of his owner from some accidents and intruding. Dogs have a sharp sixth sense from which they can feel the coming dangerous situations and could warn you by barking. But your dog requires a full training before he can understand your expressions and gestures. You must remember that dogs don’t understand the human language and the only way you can train them is through some gestures and rewarding techniques. If you are planning to get a new pet dog, then I would suggest you to buy a puppy because puppies are easy to train and once you train them properly, they should become a part of your family. Proper training is necessary for every household pet dog so that you can understand their problems and they should understand your gestures. You must understand that your dog only understands your gestures and movements. He is not concerned about what you say to him. It doesn’t matter whether you shout on him or whispers in his ears and say - “Jarvis (this is my pet dog’s name that I will use in this book) come here!” He should only understand your gestures and body movements. So, putting this thought in your mind before giving proper training to your dog is mandatory. There are many ways through which you can train your dog like using clickers, physical exercises, hand and body gestures, and many more. We should try to learn some common techniques through which you can train your dog as soon as possible without. I have written this book by taking a perspective of a common pet dog, including any breed like German shepherds, Chihuahua, bulldog, or any other household breed. So, it doesn’t matter what breed of dog you own, you can easily train your dog with this book. Let’s get started….. Download your copy today! Dogs are men's best friends and when you say best friend all want you for them is the best. Like humans, if you treat the dogs nicely then they can be so nice to you as well. It's hard to train a dog, it takes a lot of effort and patience. You need to put love in every gestures that you are going to teach them. This book I believe will be such a big help for people who wanted to train theirs dogs to do some basic tricks that will make every people will see them giggles. Because there's a big difference between training them for fun and training them for competition, some just teaching them some tricks for them to get along with their dogs. A highly recommended book.

By Zeke I remember my husband used to watch this Cesar (don't know what exactly the name of the tv program) It's like how to train dog. We all know that 'Dog is man's best friend' and I think every house has a dog, right? but having a dog is not enough. You have to train them how to be polite, obedience and discipline them. Well, aside from Cesar's program. This book has a great training tips. This one is one of the easiest way to discipline your dog, command to teach them, and learn during play time. Maybe, I don't need to hire someone to train my dog. This book is my great helper in the process!

Best Ebook Online Memorabilia Domestica: Or, Parish Life in the North of Scotland (Classic Reprint), by Donald Sage

Excerpt from Memorabilia Domestica: Or, Parish Life in the North of ScotlandThis volume is issued in response to numerous enquires regarding manuscripts of reminiscences, which it was known the late Mr. Sage, minister of Resolis in Ross-shire, had left, complete but unpublished. The author's modest and retiring character had made him shrink, as is seen in his own preface, from bringing his "Memorabilia" before the public eye. Repeated requests for its perusal, and the knowledge that the information here recorded was derived from original and authentic sources, are the editor's apology for its present appearance in print. What has weighed with him also is, that these pages delineate Christian life and social manners, as they existed in northern Scotland, during a period of which hitherto little has been known except by tradition. The graphic sketches of prominent people, and of manners and customs prevailing in various localities, are drawn from personal observation which the author had the best opportunities of exercising. The many-sided characters of persons of all ranks and professions are here vividly portrayed; picturesque districts of country, hitherto comparatively unvisited and unknown, are minutely described; changes, which have altered the face of the Highlands, are pointed out and traced to their original causes; the state of religion and morals, as connected with the persons who mainly influenced the people for good or evil, is brought under review; and all these are woven into a connected narrative, held together by the continuous thread of the author's autobiography.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. By Argon The content of the book is very exciting, life in the Highlands from various perspectives in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. Very fascinating reading for anyone interested in life in Northern Scotland in that period and later. I have given it four stars only not because of content but rather because the book is a Reprint of older manuscripts and the type and printing is infintimaly tiny, making it a difficult read because of the size of the print.

Unlike many of its contemporaries there are not a lot of "archaic" comments or phrasings that keep constantly reminding you this was written over a hundred years ago. Rather, the author has a very dry and understated sense of humor that keeps popping out at the most opportune moments to liven the story up. The characters are well developed and very believable.Faithful readers will be happy to know there are no typos, misspellings, or blatant grammatical errors - a relief from some of the current un-edited stuff that surrounds us.I highly recommend this story and I will certainly seek out some of the author's other works.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good story, but a bit less exciting than "Captain Horn" By J. Walker Blue Not a bad yarn, but not up the adventurous standard Stockton set in the prequel to this, "The Adventures of Captain Horn." Engaging and well written, just not a spellbinder. I would recommend it if you've read "Captain Horn," as several of the characters in that novel are continued in this one.

Sweet Love, by Alyce Miller

Review The "love" in these twelve stories is a lot of things but it is rarely "sweet". Again and again Miller's characters pick "the rottenest apple off the tree, worms and all" and are left to face the consequences. Writing breadth and excellence By Russell Scott Miller looks at love from the multifaceted and confusing perspective of an array of women just trying to find a way to love in the modern world. Her writing carries the gravitas of first hand experience. It isn't always pretty to look at, but it reflects the world today, without maudlin sentimentality. Worth reading, writing from a gifted storyteller.

Although many might not recognize the name P.G. Wodehouse, they have inevitably come across his work. Wodehouse was a British humorist who wrote novels, short stories, journalism pieces, and other stuff, becoming extremely popular over a 70 year career. Today he is best known for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, but he was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and 250 lyrics. Both the name "Jeeves" and the character of Jeeves have become a common part of the English lexicon, meaning a valet or chauffeur. It is even the inspiration behind the popular search engine Ask Jeeves.

Mike and Psmith, by P.G. Wodehouse

From Library Journal Released as a single volume in 1909, the first two of this trio follow the misadventures of young cricket ace Mike Jackson and his chum at school. Published a little later in Wodehouse's career (1928), Money for Nothing serves up a Romeo and Juliet-like tale of the romance between the offspring of two feuding buffoons. Typical Wodehouse British farces.Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Grounded Wodehouse By A Customer If you pick up Mike and Psmith and expect it to be like the wacky comedies that Wodehouse composed in the 20s and 30s, you might be slighted disappointed. This is early Wodehouse, a Wodehouse concerned with school masters, ragging (an expression for creating mischief) and especially cricket. It is also a more grounded Wodehouse, a novel where the comedy is more subtle, a novel where the characters are not quite so flighty. This is also Wodehouse at his least complex. This is not the novel that shows his mastery of the convulted plot, where every word spoken and deed done entagles our heros and heroines in further trouble. This said, I need to quickly confirm that Mike and Psmith is a wonderful novel. It still has a freshness and innocence about it that is highly appealing. In this day and age, of rampant murders and unclear elections, Mike and Psmith is as sunny and cheerful a book as you are likely to find. And just to show you that I read Mike and Psmith with my eyes wide open, I have to state that my early comments are not intended as criticism but as a compliment. The subtlety is the very reason why this novel is so great! It is his art in creating a scene or a character and putting in the interesting setting of Sedleigh that Wodehouse shows why so many refer to him as the Master.Mike and Psmith is not the funniest book Wodehouse wrote, but it does have many incredible scenes, especially Mr. Downing's search for the paint splashed shoe. I agree with the other reviewers that this is the high point of the book. I think readers will find a lot to enjoy in this novel. It is an escape to a world not that far removed for our own but placed in a time that we will never see again. This novel truly scores a century!

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Very enjoyable By A Customer I have to confess that I am a Wodehouse addict. I read the predecessor to this book (Mike at Wrykyn) when I was fifteen and had always wanted to read Mike and Psmith. Re. this book, Wodehouse had me in stitches most of the time - the portions relating to Mr. Downing are hilarious. Cricket is also a focus of this novel. If you are like me and miss the game, this will bring those school time memories flooding back. For those who haven't read a Psmith novel before, I highly recommend them. It is said that Wodehouse created the Jeeves and Wooster characters as 2 spin-offs from Psmith and you can certainly see the connections! On the whole, another Wodehouse classic.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Enter Psmith, the Lion of Early Wodehouse Characters By A Customer In this uproarious volume we make our first acquaintance with R. Psmith, whose humorous speech and mannerisms combined with his genius for quickly solving his way out of a jam make him such a memorable character. His readiness with ingenious solutions in the nick of time as well as his punctiliousness of attire both remind us of Jeeves, who wouldn't appear for another eight years; his self assurance foreshadows Uncle Fred of the Blandings stories. As in many of the author's early novels the plot is considerably weaker than in the classic novels that came later, hence my witholding one star. But the individual scenes and conversations are hilarious and make the book a must-read for any Wodehouse fan.

Jerome K. Jerome was an English writer best known for his humorous writing, and his most famous work is the comic travelogue Three Men in a Boat, which details a boating holiday on the River Thames.  Three Men on the Bummel is a humorous sequel to Three Men in a Boat as the same three characters go on a bicycle tour through the German Black Forest.

Successively a clerk, schoolmaster, reporter, actor, and journalist, he became joint editor of The Idler in 1892 and launched his own twopenny weekly, To-Day. Humorous tales of cycling the Black Forest By K Scheffler I read this book--which I assume is a fictionalized account of an actual journay--after having spent a year in Germany and I bemused by the fact that the Germans that Jerome K. Jerome characterizes in this book (published in 1900) are very similar to those of the present day. Added to this, is the fact that the book is mainly set in the Black Forest region of Germany, which is where I stayed. So not only was this book humorous and entertaining, it rekindled fond memories as well. The writing I fear will disillusion the more casual reader, but for those who have the inclination, this book is a very worthwhile read.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. delightful, if not quite at the level of Three Men in a Boat By Neurasthenic I read this book both because I, like so many, was delighted with Jerome K. Jerome's earlier book, Three Men In A Boat (To Say Nothing Of The Dog...), and because this sequel has the reputation of being a "bicycle book," a genre I often enjoy. In both regards I was slightly disappointed. Though entertaining, Bummel is not as funny as Three Men in a Boat, and though the protagonists in Bummel do travel in part by bicycle, the book is mostly a discussion of the process of planning a trip, and of the German cities they visited. As with Three Men in a Boat, this book seems thoroughly modern in tone and style of humor. Jerome K. Jerome is particularly fond of comical exaggeration of the sort that would seem totally natural on a television sitcom today. After a mistake involving somebody else's bicycle, and a run-in with the authorities, he summarizes "My going scot free is regarded in police circles there to this day as a grave miscarriage of justice."Portions read much like Douglas Adams ("I wish no one to read this book under a misapprehension. There will be no useful information in this book.") and others like John Cleese in Fawlty Towers (a discussion of an English shopkeeper frustrated when the protagonists, as a prank, pretend not to be able to speak English). The material near the start of the book about the friends and their wives is all quite funny, and thoroughly modern in the way the women effortlessly outsmart the men. The discussions of stereotypical German behavior are remarkable mostly for how little such stereotypes have changed. Germans were, 120 years ago and today, thought to be officious and compulsive in following rules. Fans of old bicycle books will find much here to like, with description of the hazards of amateur bike-tuning, and lies in bike advertisements, and the observation that uphills always seem to last longer than downhills. The book is in some regards dated. These passages are in some cases fascinating -- the discussion of how beautiful Dresden is (in 1895), and other German cities that were burned out in World War II. Others are merely confusing (what is the significance of the hats owned by "Mrs Hemans"?). One brief section, told in stereotypical black dialect, will offend some modern readers.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Hysterical! By dickenslover Jerome K. Jerome has done it again! Since I read Three Men in a Boat, I have become addicted to the witty nature & hilarious narrative of Jerome K. Jerome. Three Men on the Bummel is equally funny as it depicts the "three amigos" traveling through Germany with the hysterical commentary of Jerome. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

Super Reader By average Wandering around looking for stuff is all well and good, but being a bit careful is something you should do.When a lioness takes Jim for later snacks, tracking her down gives them a lot more than they bargained for.It is lucky for them that Hunter Quatermain turned up when he did. Well, a bit late for Jim, but lucky for others.

Rachel Minchin stands in the dock, accused of murdering the dissolute husband she was preparing to leave. The trial is sensational, and public opinion vehemently and almost universally against her. When the jury astonishes and outrages the world with a vedict of Not Guilty, Rachel quickly finds herself in need of protection. It comes in the form of a surprising offer of marriage from a mysterious stranger who has sat through every day of her trial. The marriage to this intriguing stranger, Mr. Steel, is by mutual agreement to be a platonic one, the only condition of which is that neither is ever to question the other about the past. The two travel to Steel’s remote country estate, where Rachel accidentally discovers that her second husband’s past was somehow intertwined with her first husband’s history - but how, exactly, and why he determined to marry her, Steel will not say. As her doubts about her husband increase, local busybodies threaten to unearth Rachel’s own past. And that is the least of the secrets that comes to light as this entertaining mystery unfolds.

I love the story, the Australian setting, very well done. Reminds me somewhat of H. Ryder Haggard. I have bought other Hornung stories for my Kindle.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another great one from Raffles' man. By Hobo Eddy Although better known as the creator of Raffles, the charming burglar, Hornung also wrote some impressive novels, such as this story of a woman acquitted of murdering her husband, yet convicted in the court of public opinion. The explosive twists of plot leading to her reprieve from prejudice makes this a superb work. Frankly, I find Hornung a superior writer to his brother-in-law, Conan Doyle, whom, without Holmes, would have been forgotten.

The stars, like incandescent lights fed by a fast weakening dynamo, grew pale, faded, and, one by one, went out. The slate-colored sea, with its tumbling waves, changed color, becoming a light gray, then a faint blue, and, as the red sun rolled up over the edge of the eastern horizon, a brilliant sapphire, trimmed with a silver white on the shoals and along the beach at the foot of the bluff.

Early 20th Century Light Novel - Recently Made Into a Movie By William Carpenter The Women-Haters, by Joseph Crosby Lincoln, was published in 1911 and is set on Cape Cod. It is a very light, rather amusing, story of two men, disappointed in love, who work as lighthouse keepers. It just so happens that two women come to spend the summer at a nearby rental house and by the end of the book there are two happy couples and no more women-haters.Oddly enough, after a mere century it was finally made into a movie in 2010 called The Lightkeepers starring Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner. Both the book and the movie are a nice way to pass an idle afternoon.

The movie is fairly faithful to the book overall. I very much enjoyed both on their own merit. Would read and watch both again and again.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is perhaps America's favorite author. A quick-witted humorist who wrote travelogues, letters, speeches, and most famously the novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), Twain was so successful that he became America's biggest celebrity by the end of the 19th century. Despite writing biting satires, he managed to befriend everyone from presidents to European royalty.  A Tramp Abroad was written as part of a series of five non-fiction travel books by Twain, documenting his journey through central and southern Europe with a male companion, closely based on his friend Joseph Twichell. It is similar to and often considered a sequel of the very popular The Innocents Abroad.

A Tramp Abroad, by Mark Twain

Review ''[A Tramp Abroad] is delicious, whether you open it at the sojourn in Heidelberg, or the voyage down the Neckar on a raft, or mountaineering in Switzerland, or the excursion beyond the Alps into Italy.'' --William Dean Howells''Twain was the first writer to elevate the American vernacular to a high art. Sidestepping the starched-shirt diction of his peers, he created an idiom that resembled (but did not precisely duplicate) the wayward, slangy, ungrammatical music of American conversation.'' --Amazon.com editorial review

From the Inside Flap In "A Tramp Abroad, Mark Twain's unofficial sequel to "The Innocents Abroad, the author records his hilarious and diverse observations and insights while on a fifteen-month walking trip through Central Europe and the Alps. "Here you have Twain's inimitable mix," writes Dave Eggers in his Introduction, "of the folksy and the effortlessly erudite, his unshakable good sense and his legendary wit, his knack for the easy relation of a perfect anecdote, and some achingly beautiful nature writing." This Modern Library Paperback Classic reproduces the text of the first American edition and features new explanatory notes and a critical Afterword by Kerry Driscoll, professor of English at Saint Joseph College in Connecticut.

From the Back Cover “[A Tramp Abroad] is delicious, whether you open it at the sojourn in Heidelberg, or the voyage down the Neckar on a raft, or mountaineering in Switzerland, or the excursion beyond the Alps into Italy.” —William Dean Howells

36 of 36 people found the following review helpful. An underrated book that at times is absolutely hilarious By Paul H "A Tramp Abroad" is a humorous account of Mark Twain's travels in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It is part travel guide, part commentary on European culture, and part tall tale. Like many of Twain's less-known works, "A Tramp Abroad" is rather uneven -- the chapters in the book range from rather boring to laugh-out-loud funny. Yet on balance, the humorous moments make up for the dull moments, and the majority of the less humorous chapters are still interesting. Apart from a few slow chapters, it provides a good read from beginning to end. Some of the highlights of "A Tramp Abroad" are Twain's exaggerated account of his ascent of the Riffelberg (a mountain in the Swiss Alps), his comments on the peculiarities of the German language, and a hilarious episode in which Twain spends half an hour pretending to know a woman who remembers him though he doesn't remember her.I have read most of Twain's works, and in my opinion "A Tramp Abroad" is not his best work, but it is definitely one of his most underrated books. It is not as good as his most popular works of fiction (i.e., Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn), nor is it as good as "Life on the Mississippi." But I found it to be the most entertaining of his purely travel-oriented books (the other books in that category being "The Innocents Abroad" and "Following the Equator"). The bottom line is that if you are a fan of Mark Twain's style, then you should find this book to be well worth reading. Finally, if you are going to read "A Tramp Abroad," I highly recommend obtaining a version that contains all 328 of the original illustrations. While I normally would make this recommendation for any of Twain's works, it is especially important for this book since the text makes several references to the illustrations, and since some of the jokes in the text would not make sense without the illustrations. The only current edition I know of that definitely contains *all* of the original illustrations is the Oxford Mark Twain edition (ISBN 0195101375). Also, the Modern Library Classics edition (ISBN 0812970039) apparently has retained some of the original illustrations, since it contains a note stating that "... some illustrations have been omitted" (thus implying that some have not been omitted). I would assume that this edition has retained those illustrations which are essential to the humor, but I can't say for sure since I don't actually have it.

Journeysknown as Grand Tours led tourists to take ship to the Continent. They fanned out across thelandscape with the intent to "know Europe." Their return home resulted in a flurry ofpublished accounts. Twain satirizes both the tourists and their writings with deliciouswit. Ever a man to play with words, his "tramp" refers to both himself and the walking tourof Europe he purports to have made. By the time you've reached the end of the account of the"walking tour" incorporating trains, carriages and barges, you realize that the longest "walk"Twain took occurred in dark hotel room while trying to find his bed. He claims to havecovered 47 miles wandering around the room.Twain was interested in everything, probing into both well-known and obscure topics. Hisjudgments are vividly conveyed in this book, standing in marked contrast to his morereserved approach in Innocents Abroad. A delightful overview of mid-19th Century Europe,Tramp is also interlaced with entertaining asides. Twain was deeply interested in people, andvarious "types" are drawn from his piercing gaze, rendered with acerbic wit. Some of theseare contemporary, while others are dredged from his memories of the California mines andother journeys. He also relished Nature's marvels, recounting his observations. A favouriteessay is "What Stumped the Blue-jays." A nearly universal bird in North America, Twain'sdescription of the jay's curiosity and expressive ability stands unmatched. He observes suchhumble creatures as ants, Alpine chamois, and the American tourist. Few escape hisperception or his scathing wit. This book remains valuable for its timeless rendering ofcharacters and the universality of its view. It can be read repeatedly for education orentertainment.

Barometer Soup By JOHN ANDREW ABEL I have not read Twain since High School twenty five plus years ago but a friend on a newspapers book forums got me to read him again and A Tramp Abroad is the first book I picked. For the current generation this book may drag but for those of us who grew up reading books instead of playing computer games this is Twain at his best. One has to actually read into his writing to appreciate a lot of the irony but when this book is really on like the mountain climbing near the Matterhorn ,Twain makes Seinfeld seem like he's talking about something. A brilliant travel essay and by the way the Penguin Classics edition of this book in paperback is 411 pages long, not 670 pages .
