22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Interesting By Ervin M. Sims It is interesting to read old histories because it gives one a view of how people thought when the book was written. The author Jacob Abbott was a New England Congregationalist preacher and college professor in the early to mid 19th century. He was also a writer of children's books. I had wondered if this would be a compilation of facts and views from Shakespeare and Caesar's Commentaries, but there was definately more to it than that. He filled in holes left in the Commentaries and Shakespeare's play. It was a fairly short read. The author tried to be evenhanded, but I don't think he really liked Caesar all that much. For someone who wants some basic backgrond on Caesar this would be a good place to go, but you would certain be left wanting more.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Readable History of a Great Man By C.F. Lai-Larson "Sam" This is a very accessible story of Julius Caesar, the great Roman soldier and stateman. Jacob Abbott had gathered historical information from various (ancient) sources and written a bio that is interesting and accurate. I learned much more about Caesar and his motives from this book than I ever did in school.I plan on reading more of Mr. Abbott's histories.

History Of Julius Caesar By FDT This book is very easy reading.I read the book in one week and found it to be informative about Julius Caesar,also i would recommend this book to sudents Ancient Rome.The book is written in simple plain language,and what i have found very surprising is that this book was written in 1877 by the author.This book is very good reading and value for money.
