As a mother it inspires me to reach out to my children, to get to know their issues and the many challenges associated with growing up. The book also touches on what it is like to be different and how cruel children can be to those who they perceive to be outside of the norm. The reader also gets to experience a different culture and way of life. It provides a very moving and inspiring description different cultures and religions. Helping the reader to see that one's actions may often time be determined by their circumstances. As a result tolerance is needed in the way we treat others. This story would be a great addition to the History book lessons in the classroom.

Set in a hill town in the Himalayas, the setting is rich and exotic. The author has given special attention to the cultural and religious landscape as he shows the struggles the boy has in trying to fit in. Written in first person, the reader truly gets to know Sudarshan and his life. As he matures, Sudarshan wonders more and more about the father who abandoned him. Eventually he gets the opportunity to pursue what really happened. The truth threatens to crush him, but it also provides an opportunity for growth. The end is surprising and asks the reader if each of us has the strength to choose love over truth.Powerfully written, the language is eloquent and accessible. The reader is immediately drawn into Sudarshan’s world. Masterful plotting allows the story to unfold naturally as we are drawn deeper and deeper into mystery. Each chapter is perfectly framed by a passage from the Bhagavad Gita. Sudarshan’s Gift will remain with readers long after the story is finished.

Intriguing By Scott Sudarshan’s Gift by Aviott John is set in the foothills of the Himilayan Mountains and focuses on Sudarshan as he grows into adulthood. He is raised by his grandmother as his mother died and his father left. As Sudarshan grows into adulthood he finds himself wondering what his grandmother is keeping from him and who his parents were. As he decides to confront his grandmother to find out what she is keeping from him, he learns that she is dying.I enjoyed many aspects of this book. I loved that I got to see Sudarshan grow from a child to an adult because this provided me with a solid understanding of what he was and where he came from. I loved the relationship that Sudarshan has with his grandmother as well as how it shifted when he began to learn about his parents. Finally, I love how the gift that Sudarshan had to give was a complete surprise that we don’t learn about until the very end.Sudarshan is well written and engaging. While I can’t quite pinpoint the exact type of reader that would love this book, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
