I was more than pleasantly surprised by it.It is a bit hard to read, especially at first, due to it being both "proper" British English and OLD English to boot. The book was written in 1886, so it takes some time to get used to thinking/reading in the old language style.This would actually make for a great movie. Although my hunch is this may have been written for young adults, I felt it was quite enjoyable for adults. The way he weaves characters in and out of each others lives is almost Forrest Gump like, in that our protagonist seems to be able to run into all kinds of situations and the same folks repeatedly.It is a look at times gone by of honor and respect and when there was an even greater gap between the haves and have nots.A most enjoyable read that I could not put down!

Walker Blue Like the previous reviewer (and based partially on his recommendation), I took a chance on "A Dog With a Bad Name" and was quite pleasantly surprised. This is an engaging story of the trials, tribulations and ultimate redemption of a young man trying to live down a dark episode in his life. It is well written, with compelling characters, and although it seems to be targeted for young people, it is sophisticated enough for even the oldest of adult tastes. What a pity no one writes this kind of material for young people, any more. Lots of great lessons to be learned in this kind of story.

But when you got to the middle it got very interesting. I liked the way all of the characters entwined at the end of the story
