About the Author Jack London was an American author, journalist, and adventurer. London s early careers as sailor, fisherman, and prospector provided inspiration for his later writing, and it was only when he returned from the Klondike that London decided to focus on social activism and journalism. He soon became a popular magazine columnist and author, and a prolific commercial writer, penning over two dozen novels, and numerous short stories and poems. His most famous works include The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, and the short stories To Build a Fire, and An Oddyssey of the North. London died in 1916.

This book by Jack London is like reading a first hand account (he was there) of the "Stampeders" and the hardships of getting to the Yukon looking for a fortune that few found. Easy, interesting read!

A lesser known (to me, at least) Jack London By Paulino Serrano Valero This is a very different work from the most famous books by the author, those which turned Jack London into one of the luminaries of literature in English. However, I found here everything "Londonesque" (please forgive the neologism) but the fast-paced action.This is a novel more along the lines of "The Valley of the Moon" than those of "Call of the Wild".Irrespective of this being the first Jack London's work you read, or your already being a fan of the great writer from San Francisco, you'll come back for more. Guaranteed.

By Ardy Jack London writes heroic novels set in environments few have experienced and none that are living today could remember. For that and the speed of the story it is worth a read BUT it is a disjointed and difficult read. The ending is absolutely lousy. I thought my kindle version had not been fully scanned...Frona and her father are part of a larger than life group of characters in the book. I got very annoyed with Frona after dumping Corliss and then stating she is 'not here to marry'. Then promptly gets engaged to St Vincent.One of his very much lesser lights. He might have got too caught up with his politics and too little caught up with the story.
