Although many might not recognize the name P.G. Wodehouse, they have inevitably come across his work. Wodehouse was a British humorist who wrote novels, short stories, journalism pieces, and other stuff, becoming extremely popular over a 70 year career. Today he is best known for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, but he was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and 250 lyrics. Both the name "Jeeves" and the character of Jeeves have become a common part of the English lexicon, meaning a valet or chauffeur. It is even the inspiration behind the popular search engine Ask Jeeves.

From Library Journal It would be unreasonable to expect every one of Wodehouse's more than 90 books to sparkle; the only glitter emanating from this one is Frederick Davidson's inspired narration. First published in England in 1917 (the 1933 U.S. edition is different), Two Left Feet contains 13 pieces of Wodehouse's apprentice work, with only hints of the writing power he would later develop. Most of its stories are sentimental tales straining for O. Henry-esque endings. The patience even of Wodehouse aficionados will be tested by some?particularly two narrated by a dog. Still, the book is not without its bright spots, and "Extricating Young Gussie" is notable for introducing (though fleetingly) Jeeves. Recommended only for libraries with legions of Wodehouse fans. A note to audiobook publishers: Jacket copy on story collections would be immensely enhanced by complete contents listings.?R. Review ''[Narrator Davidson's] own good humor comes through as he nearly drawls the finer points of the comic narrative.'' --AudioFile''Wodehouse's idyllic world can never stale. He will continue to release future generations from captivity that may be more irksome than our own.'' --Evelyn Waugh, author of Brideshead Revisited''Wodehouse is the greatest comic writer ever.'' --Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The stories in "The Man With Two Left Feet" are very unlike his usual style. Most take place in New York, one is told from the first person perspective of a woman, and one is even told from the point of view of a dog. However, every one has the classic humor and expectadly unexpected happy ending that Wodehouse is known for, and each was a delightful read. As usual, Wodehouse kept me smiling throughout ~ even with only a brief visit from our old friend Bertie.

One of the finest witty wordsmiths who ever picked up a pen. When I need a smile, or a lift, or even a roll on the floor laugh I turn to one of the many wonderful works of Wodehouse. So many wonderful and delightful stories to choose from, and each one is from a different period in PG 'Plum' to his friends - life. While my favorite character is Psmith, how can I not enjoy the mutterings of Ukridge, or long to have my life saved from disasters by the likes of Jeeves.Stephen Fry wrote 'Without Wodehouse I am not sure I would be a tenth of what I am today...his writings awoke me to the possibilities of language. His rhythms, tropes, tricks and mannerisms are deep within me. But more than that, he taught me something about good nature. It IS enough to be benign, to be gentle, to be funny, to be kind.As laughter is the best medicine, perhaps we need a good dose of Wodehouse from time to time, and during these bleak winter months, in the dark time of the economy, Wodehouse is just what the Doctor ordered! Here is a prescription: read one story per night until you are always smiling!

Blackham I can't review the plot for this audiobook because I can't stand to listen to it. I clicked "listen" under the audiobook icon before I bought it on Amazon, to see if I would like the narrator, and it was a man with a perfectly lovely British accent. Without reading the fine print, which says that the audiobook is read by Anais (whatever that means), I ordered it. SURPRISE!!!! Anais is a COMPUTER! The voice sounds like the robot in the 1960s sci fi "Lost in Space" (except it's supposed to be a female voice, I think). Monotone, with unnaturally truncated syllables. So I have two complaints: FIRST: If a person is looking at the screen for the AUDIOBOOK, the listening sample should be from the AUDIOBOOK. I'm assuming the clip I heard is from the AUDIBLE version. This current set-up is confusing to people who are in a hurry (an unintentional oversight, I'm SURE). Second: Who the heck programs a computer to talk like that these days? There needs to be a note below the listening icon: "WARNING: 1960s comedy television technology used to make this recording." Now that I read the fine print, the name of the recording company is "Babblebooks." No pun intended, I'm willing to guess.
