About the Author Johann David Wyss was a Swiss writer best known for his children s classic The Swiss Family Robinson. A pastor in Bern, Switzerland, Wyss s writing was influenced by his four sons, and was intended to serve as a moral guide for self-reliance, farming, cooperation, and frugality. Wyss died in 1818 at the age of 74, six years after the publication of The Swiss Family Robinson.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Swiss Family Robinson By GAshopper The great thing about this book is that it is a classic. Another wonderful thing is that it was free. There were only a few things I did not like. First, it appears that the text was scanned and not proofread. There are still captions but no illustrations. One portion of the story appears to be missing. The story started slow,but later became very interesting.
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Unabridged and a different translation By aannbrr I very much enjoyed this edition of The Swiss Family Robinson. The entire second half of the book was different from any other version I have read but I really liked it. I especially appreciate the many details that abridged versions omit. I highly recommend this edition!

Emmick - Grade 4This book is about a family stranded on an island in a shipwreck. They found food and built a house in a tree. They collected fruits and animals to eat. They built more than one house and lived in different places on the island. They made boats and caught fish to feed to their animals. They planted a garden with seeds from the shipwreck, but sometimes it was not so good. One time savages took people from the family, but it turned out the savages were nice and they found the people. Sometimes they made surprises for each other. They made boats float when they thought they couldn't. They never wanted to leave the island.I liked the book because it was adventurous. The author was very specific about what they saw and did, and I could imagine it in my head. It was never boring reading it. You should read it!
